An Ordinance regulating the currency
<Sec 1.> Be it ordained by the City Council of the City of That from & after the passage of this Bill, Gold & Silver and Copper Coin only be received as lawful Tender in payment of Taxes, & of debts, & also of Fines imposed under the Ordinances of the .
<Sec> 2nd. That Scrip shall not hereafter be emitted as moneyed currency; provided however; that nothing in this Bill shall be so construed as to prevent the redemption of previous Emissions.
<Sec> 3d.Res. That any person passing counterfeit Gold or Silver, or Copper Coin, or <counterfeit or spurious> paper Currency, or aiding & abetting therein, or holding the same with intent to pass it; knowing it to be Such; shall be liable to <a fine not exceeding> Fineor <$5.000 or to> imprisionment <or hard labor in the , for a term> for the Term of <not exceeding 14 years> intheorJailor <or all these penalties> both at the discretion of the Court.
<Sec> 4th.Res. That any person who shall offer any paper currency that is depreciated below Ten per cent, as published in the price current of the City of shall be liable on conviction thereof before any competent Court of this to a forfeiture <or fine> of fifty cents for every dollar thus offered, toberecovered to be recoverd as in for the benefit of the .— [p.
