Biography

28 Feb. 1817–13 Mar. 1871. Potter, farmer. Born in Toxteth Park, Lancashire, England. Son of Sampson Cordon and Myrah Hampson. Apprenticed in potting business, ca. 1829. Moved to Burslem, Staffordshire, England, ca. 1834, where he worked as a potter. Married Emma Parker, 19 Dec. 1836, in Burslem. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by David Wilding, 30 June 1839, in Manchester, Lancashire. Ordained a high priest, 6 July 1840, in Manchester. Appointed to serve mission in England, Oct. 1840. Immigrated to U.S., 1842; settled in Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois. Appointed to serve mission to Vermont, 1844. Migrated to Salt Lake Valley, 1851. Moved to Box Elder Co., Utah Territory, by 1860. Presiding elder of branch of church in North Willow Creek (later in Willard), Box Elder Co., fall 1856–1858. Bishop of Willard ward, 1857–1871. Died in Willard.
