Biography

1 June 1812–5 May 1899. Farmer. Born in New Lisbon, Grafton Co., New Hampshire. Son of Moses Martin and Sarah Aldrich. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 19 Feb. 1833, at Elk Creek Township, Erie Co., Pennsylvania. Participated in Camp of Israel expedition to Missouri, 1834. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, by 1835. Ordained a seventy, 28 Feb. 1835. Served mission to New York, beginning Apr. 1836. Married Julia Priscilla Smith, 24 Sept. 1837, in Kirtland. Moved to Caldwell Co., Missouri, Nov. 1837. Moved to Nashville, Lee Co., Iowa Territory, by 1840. Served mission to Illinois, beginning Aug. 1841. Served mission to England, 1846–1848; appointed to preside over London conference, Oct. 1846. Migrated to Salt Lake Valley; arrived Oct. 1848. Excommunicated, Apr. 1850. Moved to San Bernardino, San Bernardino Co., California. Died in San Bernardino.
